Stage 5
The garden of lost songs
Between the petrified trees stood a majestic bird with silver feathers, suspended in time like an ice statue. When Decimus approached, the bird, which bore the name Aelion, slowly opened its cerulean eyes and whispered…
Now you have come to the last Witchcraft
and life in the woods will no longer be fantasy.
Listen to the branches up there
there is hidden music, can you hear it too?
Jackdaws, cuckoos, blackbirds and finches:
what beautiful songs we birds had!
Now we are silent, the throat has closed
And the voice in the ice has been confused.
To help us sing in the woods again
solve the riddle that is proposed:
listen to the songs with great attention
and match each bird to its own song!
Match each bird to its song! The number corresponding to the blackbird’s song will be the fifth clue! Write it down or keep it in mind, you will need it together with the others to solve the mystery. Return now to the bell tower for the last stage, clue No. 6!
What to observe
Among the foliage of Cymatic Hill it is easy to observe some bird species that live permanently in this area.
The blackcap, for example, is a fairly common bird but not always easy to see: the male can be recognised by its characteristic black cap, the female by its reddish-brown cap. It prefers areas rich in vegetation, where it feeds on berries and small insects. Its song is a harmonious, musical warbling of increasing power, which may resemble that of the nightingale.
The blackbird, with its black plumage and bright yellow beak, is one of the best known birds. It lives close to the ground, where it finds earthworms, larvae and small fruits, and is often the first to become active at dawn. Its song is flute-like, high-pitched and loud, with short, lower trills.
The finch, on the other hand, is distinguished by its brightly coloured plumage, particularly in the male, which has reddish tones on its breast and blue-grey on its head. It loves open environments with trees and hedges, where it builds perfect nests, well hidden among the branches. Its song is a sequence of rapid, resonant sounds, with strong, metallic accents.
